The Centre for Development and Environment Policy (CDEP) at IIM Calcutta hosted the launch of Financing Climate Action, a new open-access eBook examining climate finance through developing-economy realities, with a strong focus on India.

The event, chaired by Prof. Rajesh Bhattacharya from IIM Calcutta, brought together experts to discuss how climate investments can be mobilised and directed toward national priorities. Speakers explored governance, capital allocation, risk, and the role of public institutions in shaping financial outcomes.

In her intervention, Dr. Chantal Naidoo, Founder and Executive Director of Rabia, reflected on how the book advances climate finance thinking from a Global South perspective. She highlighted the need for financing approaches that recognise structural realities in emerging economies, from shallow financial systems to the differing roles of public and private institutions. She also underscored that justice in climate finance is not only about where funds flow, but how access is negotiated and governed, making risk-sharing and system-level reform essential to resilient transitions.

Financing Climate Action presents a timely and pragmatic framework for countries across the Global South to mobilise finance that enables climate action while supporting development and equity.

We are pleased to share both the book and the launch conversation here, advancing dialogue on climate finance that reflects the priorities and capabilities of the Global South.
